You choose who to tutor:

Basic Literacy - ESOL - GED Study

- Dates for Fall Tutor Training -

Nothing makes me happier than tutoring those who require ESoL instruction. I have met so many wonderful people whom I have

tutored and worked with. I hold an informal ESOL class at a local church on Saturdays. The students always have fun. They realize that English is a pretty easy language to learn. My drive to help the learners far surpasses any other passion or hobby I have. I hope to continue tutoring for Literacy NENY.

Tutor volunteers work with individuals who wish to improve their reading, writing, and/ or math skills, study for the GED, or learn English as a Second Language. We ask for a one year commitment which involves preparing for your lessons along with meeting with your learner for 2 hours per week.  We do recognize that people have lives outside of literacy and honor time for vacation, family time, etc.  All we ask is that you let us know in advance.

Tutor Responsibilities:

  • Attend initial tutor training and additional in-services throughout the year

  • Commit to tutoring for at least 1 year

  • Work with your student for 2 hours a week

  • Track student progress, hours, and lessons

 Benefits of Tutoring:

  • Personal satisfaction helping a student achieve their goals

  • Meeting new people

  • Giving back to one's own community
