"Changing Lives Through Literacy"

About Us

Two of the state's leading literacy organizations—Literacy Volunteers of America—Mohawk/Hudson and Literacy NENY—officially merged on July 1, 2009 and formed a new entity, Literacy New York Greater Capital Region. The new organization combines two well established agencies, each with over forty years of experience providing free, high-quality literacy services to adults. Our newly combined service area covers more than 3,500 square miles in Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren, and Washington Counties.

Staffed by experienced professionals and hundreds of trained and committed volunteer tutors, Literacy New York Greater Capital Region changes lives and builds community by strengthening literacy. Our staff and volunteers provide assistance to adults seeking to achieve their personal and economic goals through improving their reading, writing, math, and English fluency skills.

"I love the fact that when my little girl asks if I will read a story to her, I can. It makes me feel so important that I can do this for her."
